Have your say on plans for Gisborne Business Park

Published on 01 February 2019

Local jobs, business growth and more commercial services are all part of Council’s vision for the Gisborne Business Park, as outlined in a new draft plan for the site.

The draft plan proposes strategies to grow employment and business opportunities in Gisborne. It sets a strategic direction for expansion of the existing business park, to extend to the Saunders Road frontage. It aims to provide direction for attracting diverse businesses to the park, suggests a new attractive, landscaped setting, and proposes planning scheme controls to guide the future design and development of the site.

A significant landscaping setback is planned along Saunders Road with commercial uses proposed to be located along the expanded business park’s Saunders Road frontage. These commercial uses may include businesses such as trade supplies, furniture, commercial offices and electrical goods. These businesses require larger format premises, which are currently difficult to accommodate in Gisborne.

Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce encouraged residents and businesses to give their feedback on the proposed plan.

“Through other research and strategic work, we’ve identified that while many residents leave the shire for work each day, many would rather work closer to home,” Cr Pearce said.

“The park’s proximity to nearby public transport increases the number of people that can access the site, opening up possible employment opportunities for more of the community.

“Council is interested in getting as much feedback on this proposed plan as possible, and we’re hoping to hear from all sectors of the community.”

The draft plan for the Gisborne Business Park is funded by the Victorian Planning Authority through its Streamlining for Growth Program, which aims to help councils attract business investment, economic growth and job creation. This consultation will inform the proposed Economic Development Strategy, which will guide how Council supports business and employment creation for the next 10 years.
