2020: The Yellow Brick Road leads to Bathurst

In a major coup for Bathurst, and the region, the city will host one of Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour concerts, in January 2020.

The Yellow Brick Road Tour started in the United States in September 2018 and will include 300 shows across five continents, as Sir Elton John farewells a stellar career and more than half a century of touring.

Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said Bathurst’s inclusion in the tour will focus an international spotlight on the city, and the region, when the tour rolls into town.

“It’s a huge coup for Bathurst. It’s hard to describe what an event like this will mean. For an internationally acclaimed musician of the calibre of Elton John to bring his farewell tour to Bathurst is remarkable. It will bring fans from across Australia, potentially the world to our city. We will go down in history as one of the locations where Elton John farewells his remarkable career.”

“The concert will be held in Carrington Park which will be transformed for the event. We expect up to 15,000 fans to pack the venue.

“The logistics of the tour are incredible. Approximately 30 semi-trailer loads of equipment will make their way to Bathurst to build Elton World for the event. It will take around 10 days to build and then dismantle the concert venue. It will be an event that will go down as one of a kind for our city,” Cr Hanger said.

Council is working with concert promoter Chugg Entertainment to bring the Elton John Yellow Brick Road tour to Bathurst. The concert will be held at Carrington Park, Bathurst on 22 January 2020. Tickets will go on sale on 15 February 2019 via Ticketek.

Promoter Michael Chugg said Elton’s continuing love affair with Australia knows no bounds, proven by this farewell tour, and the breadth and depth of the itinerary.

“He loves to play for fans in cities he’s never before visited, and that’s what we’ve been able to do with Bathurst; we know it’s going to be an incredible evening of music when January 22 rolls around”.
