Burdekin Shire Council Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group Chair Lyn McLaughlin has encouraged isolated residents in the Burdekin to ‘stay strong’, as the LDMG looks to recommence food re-supply missions today into the Woodstock area.

Cr McLaughlin said she hoped forecast patchy rain today would provide an opportunity to deliver much needed food and medicine to those isolated by the weekend’s torrential rain.

“I would like to reassure all residents who have been isolated by the recent rain that the Local Disaster Management Group is working hard to safely deliver supplies,” she said.

“Yesterday we successfully completed two re-supply missions to the Woodstock-Giru district. Weather permitting, today we are looking to continue to provide much-needed relief to affected communities.”
