Burdekin LDMG: Household recycling collection on hold

Posted on 4th Feb 2019

Burdekin Shire Council is seeking assistance from residents in managing household refuse, following the recent heavy rain event.

Due to sections of the Bruce Highway being closed, Council’s recycling waste contractor is unable to transport recycling waste to its depot in Townsville for processing.

“We are therefore asking residents to refrain from putting out their yellow lid bins until further notice,” Burdekin Shire Council Mayor and Local Disaster Management Group Chair Lyn McLaughlin said.

Please note that the general waste contractor continues to be unable to access households isolated by floodwater in the Giru, Hodel, Giru-Woodstock and surrounding areas. They will also be unable to access households where roads have been cut by localised flooding, including Rita Island and Groper Creek. Please see Council’s website www.burdekin.qld.gov.au for all current road conditions.

Any further changes on household bin collections will be notified as soon as possible.
