Council welcomes the Australian Labor Party’s formal election pledge of $3 million towards the transformation of Elsternwick Park North into an environmentally focused park.

The announcement was made by Labor candidate for Macnamara, Josh Burns, and Shadow Minister for Justice Clare O'Neil MP on Saturday 2 February 2019.

Bayside’s Mayor, Cr Michael Heffernan said that since the decision to close the golf course last year, Councillors and staff had been talking to both major parties at all levels of government on the funding required to create the Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve.

“We’ve been working very hard to advocate on behalf of our community to get what we need to realise our vision for this wonderful place.

It represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to create something very special.

We believe the new environmentally focused park will deliver significant environmental, economic, health and social benefits to our local Bayside area and the wider region.

We look forward to working with current and future State and Federal governments to transform the park into a regionally significant, unique urban nature reserve enjoyed by residents and visitors for many generations to come.”
