Send a message about climate change

Locals are invited to take a stand against climate change by forming part of a giant human banner tomorrow.

Council is taking part in the Human Signs Across Australia initiative, that is being spearheaded by Clean Energy For Eternity (CEFE).

The initiative involves communities across Australia each making part of a human sign calling for action by politicians on climate change.

The intention is to spell out the message "MAKE THE SWITCH NOW … 100% RENEWABLES …IMAGINE" with Broken Hill to contribute the words "MAKE" and "NOW".

The words will be captured by drone photography courtesy of SkyCam Images and sent to CEFE to be combined with other communities' efforts and distributed to politicians.

Council's Chief Operations Officer, Anthony Misagh, said the human banner would help raise awareness about this critical issue.

"This project came out of the Climate Council’s City Power Partnership conference held in Kiama last year, and it would be great to see strong community support next week," he said.

"There's no doubt Broken Hill people are passionate about the environment, and this is a good opportunity to band together and send a clear message to all levels of government.

"If we can get around 200 people to participate we should be able form our giant letters clearly and produce a great picture for this project.”

Broken Hill's human banner will be formed on Memorial Oval at 5.15pm tomorrow, with participants asked to gather at the grandstand around 5pm.

Participants are advised to bring a hat and a water bottle. Water will also be supplied by Council.
