Council was thrilled to host four lucky teens from the bush this week as part of Youth Exchange Program with sister city Brewarrina Shire Council last week.
In June 2000, a Sister Cities relationship was formed with Brewarrina – a remote rural town in far west NSW 800 kilometres from the Northern Beaches and having a population of around 1700 people.
We asked the girls aged between 14-17 years a few questions to see if they enjoyed their stay as much as our youth team enjoyed hanging out with them. This is what they said:
Tamika
I think the Northern Beaches is a good area to look around and visit. It is so different to Brewarrina’s environment and culture.
My favourite thing about the week was snorkelling and seeing all the different fish.
The trip was good and I had a lot of fun. I will definitely come back!
Tarah-Leigh
The Northern Beaches is pretty with the beach and I enjoyed meeting different people.
I liked trying different things like going on jetski and surfing – I’ve never done that before.
I’d like to come back and I can’t wait to tell my family and friends back home about the trip.
Jana-Lee
It was an amazing experience and I encourage future exchanges to apply and do all the activities.
Northern Beaches is a totally different environment to Brewarrina, but it is cool and I like it and I’ll definitely be back.
I really liked doing activities that I can’t do back at home like snorkelling and surfing.
Mattia
I like everything about my week on the Northern Beaches.
I can’t wait to tell my friends how much fun I had and that I learnt to surf.
