Road and Footpath Inspection Survey

Published: 5 February 2019

What we're doing

Council is assessing Woollahra's 148km road network and 285km of community footpaths and shared access ways. Inspection work will begin on Monday 4 February and last approximately four weeks.

How’s this happening The assessment involves obtaining detailed video imaging to assess the municipality’s road, drainage and footpath assets.During this period you may notice vehicles travelling on local roads and quad bike style inspection vehicles travelling on public footways around your work, residences or other locations within the municipality. The road assessment vehicles are driven by experienced operators travelling at normal traffic speeds. Hazard lighting and other warning devices will be in operation while completing laser measurement and video recording activities of the cities roads. We ask that vehicles keep a full car length distance to provide the rear cameras with a clear view of the road surface. The footpath assessment vehicles are operated by certified pavement inspectors travelling at a brisk walking pace. Hazard lighting and other warning devices will be in operation while completing assessment and video recording activities of footpaths, cycle ways and shared access ways. They are clearly identifiable and operators will be vigilant and yield where ever possible to the needs of pedestrians. We thank you for your help and understanding during this period of works. How this affects you Your privacy

All cameras are focused on the road and kerb or footpath surface structures with limited viewing of areas directly adjacent. No image recordings of commercial or residential, private properties or structures will be undertaken.

The benefits

Council will use the infrastructure condition assessment to help plan our capital works program, and understand the value of our assets and the cost of replacement when required.
