This year’s Central Highlands Sports Forum a game changer

Sporting and active recreation groups are encouraged to get ahead of the game and help secure viable futures by attending this month’s Central Highlands Sports Forum 2019.
This year’s annual event is a game changer, as it is the first to be held since Central Highlands Regional Council implemented its Tenure Framework for sporting and active recreation clubs, groups and bodies.
Mayor Kerry Hayes said the Tenure Framework was a core component of Council’s Game Plan initiative and would provide the consistency, certainty and Council support that sport and recreation bodies needed to ensure they remain viable.
‘The Game Plan is Council’s 10-year plan for organised sport in the Central Highlands region and it’s designed to provide certainty, support and structure to our clubs, groups and sporting bodies,’ Mayor Hayes said.
‘The Tenure Framework, adopted by Council in December, is pivotal to achieving that outcome and I encourage all sports and recreation bodies to attend the forum to learn what Council is doing to promote healthy lifestyles and community participation through sport and active recreation.’
The Central Highlands Sports Forum, to be held at the Emerald Town Hall on February 23-24, will also feature facility management and strategic planning workshops designed to help sports and active recreation bodies cater for their members and community now, and achieve their future goals.
Mayor Hayes said he was excited about the future direction for sport and active recreation in the Central Highlands region.
‘Never before have Council and sport and active recreation bodies been able to work together with the guidance of such a comprehensive plan that ensures the region maintains the high standard of facilities to promote active participation among people of all ages,’ he said.
‘Our Game Plan mission statement is that in 2028, sport in the Central Highlands enriches the lifestyles of our active community and that sport will be accessible, inclusive and provide opportunities for all.
‘Sporting and active recreation groups can join us in working towards achieving that future by attending the Central Highlands Sports Forum 2019.’
