- City of Ballarat Infrastructure and Environment Director Terry Demeo
All City of Ballarat bins reported uncollected are allocated to a missed bin category, which is the measurement referred to in the report.
This number includes residents who haven’t put their bins out, where streets are blocked off, where bins are behind cars or under powerlines, contaminated bins, overfilled bins and bins that have been missed.
If a bin is reported as missed, we will return and pick it up, including where a resident may have placed a bin out too late for collection.
The City of Ballarat has been working with crews to identify locations with lower accessibility, for example parked cars, narrow streets and no turning circles, to try to allow the truck easier access.
Drivers are also identifying specific locations where they have bin placement issues or have to get out of the truck multiple times to access bins.
The City of Ballarat is also looking at audit data to identify the areas of Ballarat where contaminated or over filled bins are an issue.
The City of Ballarat is aiming to lower the amount of missed bins through identifying and correcting these issues.
Currently, there are 60 missed bins per week for the reasons outlined above, most of which are picked up the same day.
