New look library is one for the books

The Moruya library upgrade is nearly done, with staff urging the community to check out the new facilities while they check out some more books.

Eurobodalla libraries manager Linda Heald said the finishing touches were being applied now.

“Our patrons will love the spacious feel. We’ve improved the layout and knocked out the back wall to connect the library with the new Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre, with views over the golf course beyond,” Ms Heald said.

“We’ve added a lot more desks, chairs and lounges where people can read, use their phones and tablets, or simply sit back and relax.

“We think the community will really like it.”

The revamped and expanded library also features a fresh new look in the children’s area with kid-sized furnishing, additional space for art exhibitions, an accessible desk and workstation, and improved areas for staff.

Ms Heald said the layout of the non-fiction collection had been completely overhauled, making browsing a breeze.

“All the books on a particular subject are now in one spot, shelved in colour-coded zones,” she said.

“It’s more intuitive than the traditional Dewey system. It’s worked really well elsewhere and it makes the wide variety of subjects in our collection more available.”

From Saturday 23 February, the Moruya library will be open seven days: 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
