Woollahra Mayor Peter M Cavanagh will move at the next Council meeting to formally remove Steyne Park in Double Bay as an option for temporary car parking during the construction phase of the proposed redevelopment of the Cross Street Car Park.
The Mayor’s decision has been based on feedback from local residents and park users, and also informed by representations made by the Member for Vaucluse, the Hon. Gabrielle Upton MP and discussions with his Woollahra Councillor colleagues.
Whilst the proposed development is estimated to be at least 3 years away, Council will now turn its attention to trying to find alternative parking options within the Double Bay commercial centre to offset approximately 380 public car parking spaces in Cross Street Car Park which will be lost during construction.
The next Council meeting is scheduled for Monday 11 February.
