With anticipation around the Gladstone Region building for the opening night of the community musical Anything Goes, Gladstone Regional Council has stepped behind the curtain to get a sneak peek of what’s instore.
Gladstone Region Councillor Desley O’Grady said crowds will be left in awe as they set sail aboard this musical adventure.
“The entire stage will be transformed into the S.S American and the ship will contain the live 17-piece orchestra within the mezzanine floor area,” Councillor O’Grady said.
“In the nightclub scene, the orchestra will be visible to the audience.
“This is a truly unique set design by veteran Central Queensland set designer Ross James.”
Not the first time to hit the high seas, four cast members were also involved in the Gladstone Region’s 1999 rendition of Anything Goes.
“The 2019 production’s choreographer, Marj Rampton, was also the choreographer from 1999.”
The musical is a true community-focused event with many of the cast having a sibling, parent or spouse also involved.
“There are so many family connections in this production, both on the stage and behind the scenes,” Cr O’Grady said.
“It’s great to see an event like this bring not only community members together, but family members too.”
With well-known local director Jeannine Butler at the helm, Councillor O’Grady encourages all members of the community to hit the high seas, and not to forget, Anything Goes.
Tickets are available for purchase online or from the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre.
