Wollongong City Council’s applications for Financial Assistance open this week. Over the years this program has helped many community groups bring their events to the community and create vibrancy in the city.
Now we’re calling for applications with the 2018/19 Financial Assistance program opening on 1 February 2019.
This round of financial assistance is available for three of our programs:
Small Cultural Grants Sponsorship of Community Events Contribution to Bands and ChoirsCouncil’s Financial Assistance Program already has helped many community events big and small from Spring into Corrimal to Honk Oz, Mountain to Mountain Challenge and Sky’s the Limit – Mini Olympics.
To assist individuals and groups with their applications, Council will hold an information session on Monday 18 February from 12.30 to 1.30pm. To register for a session visit our website.
The Small Cultural Grants program is open to community arts organisations and Not For Profit groups in the Wollongong Local Government Area that support music, performing arts, visual arts, crafts and other cultural initiatives. Organisations can apply for grants up to $4,000. Community arts organisations or groups can also apply for seed funding of up to $1,000 if they have been established for less than three years.
The Sponsorship of Community Events program is open to organisers of community events that can demonstrate a benefit to the community. Community groups can apply for grants up to $15,000. These can include city-wide, general community and sporting events of state or national significance.
Community-based, Not For Profit bands and choirs are encouraged to apply for up to $2,000 from the Contribution to Bands and Choirs grant. Group membership is open to the community. School bands and choirs are not eligible.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said: “Council has been supporting the community events, bands and choirs and cultural programs for more than a decade. We wish to continue to support community groups and individuals who add to the colour, fun and vibrancy of our city. These are the groups who can make a little assistance go a long way with interesting and exciting projects.
“We don’t have a limitless amount to distribute, but we encourage people to check out the criteria and give it a go.
“We have to share the funds around between many worthwhile coordinators and events, so please apply. It’s also a great way for Council to know what’s happening in our community.”
Applications are open until 29 March 2019. For more information, online application or to register for the information sessions, visit our website, or call our Customer Service team on (02) 4227 7111.
