Have a say on Borella Rd corridor

Funded by the NSW Government, the strategy will examine the corridor from the Hume Highway interchange to Kerr Road, and includes key sites such as the airport and hospital precinct, as well as a wide range of industries and businesses.

It will investigate planning and transport matters, such as vehicle, pedestrian and cycle access, and crossings and major intersections. It will ensure the city has infrastructure to support the growth of health services, industry, local businesses and residential areas.

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack has urged the community to have a say, either through council’s Have a Say page or by attending a community workshop next week.

“This is about planning for the future to make sure we have everything in place to meet the transport, business and social demands of a rapidly-growing community well into the 21st century,” he said.

“To make it work best we need to know what is important to the community so we’re asking people to send feedback on such things as traffic and transport, walking and cycling paths, signage and landscaping.”

Borella Road business owner George Benyon has thrown his support behind the investigation.

“This is a fantastic initiative that will not only ensure the corridor can continue to develop, it will also provide a foundation on which the entire city can prosper and grow – so I encourage as many people as possible to have their say,” he said.

AlburyCity General Manager Frank Zaknich said this first stage of consultation will inform the preparation of a draft corridor strategy, to be followed by a second round of community input mid-year.

“The development of business and industry along the corridor, coupled with housing and services construction in Thurgoona-Wirlinga, is already providing investment and jobs growth that benefits the entire city and by developing this strategy, we’ll be able to build upon that to harness further growth to its full potential,” he said.

The community workshop will be held at the Robert Brown Room, AlburyCity offices, between 6 pm and 7.30 pm on Wednesday 13 February.
