Upgrades to the Dalby Aquatic Centre grandstand in 2019 will ensure that all patrons can enjoy a modern facility for years to come.

Construction will begin on the grandstand later this month, with $800,000 worth of works to include updated toilet and shower facilities, more comfortable seating, new balustrades, additional stairways and a paint job to give the entire grandstand a fresh new face.

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Facilities Councillor Ray Brown said it was important to ensure all residents of the Western Downs had access to modern, quality infrastructure.

“These upgrades to the grandstand at the Dalby Aquatic Centre will be a huge benefit for all our patrons,” he said.

“The facelift to the grandstand and additional bathroom facilities underneath it will ensure all our residents can enjoy this great space.

“Council is proud to offer excellent sport and recreational facilities and we know this upgrade will be welcomed by the community as it’s being built by a local contractor.”

New State Builders Project Manager Tony Carmichael said it was great to see Council using local contractors and investing in the local economy.

“Building a positive relationship for the long term and giving back to the community through employment opportunities is a high priority to us at New State Builders,” he said.

Dalby Dolphins Swim Club Registrar Amanda Bliesner said the upgrade would be great news for the club, who utilise the grandstand for regular meets and carnivals throughout the year.

“We have at least 160 people for club nights every Thursday night and we’re always looking to grow our club, so a better grandstand, better seating, better access to toilets and easier stairs will be really good,” she said.

“I know a lot of grandparents come along to watch their grandchildren swim, so it’ll make things a bit easier for them too.”

The Dalby Aquatic Centre grandstand was first constructed in the early 1970s.

The upgrade works will commence on Monday 25 February and will be completed by mid-June.

Council advises there will be a little extra noise and some minor inconvenience at the Aquatic Centre during the upgrade period, however neither pool will be closed for the works.
