Sophie and Elise Parker are excited to try Yoga Storytime.
Western Downs Libraries are bringing back Yoga Storytime to encourage children to have a go at the exercise in a kid-friendly environment.
The program is targeted at children aged six to 11 and will encourage them to engage with storytelling through movement.
Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said the eight-week program was a great opportunity for kids to learn some new skills.
“Our libraries on the Western Downs are well-known for providing great programs to engage and inspire our young people,” she said.
“We know that yoga has a lot of health benefits, so it’s great that we can give children the chance to try it out.
“I’m sure the kids will have fun and learn a lot.”
The hour-long classes will follow a progressive structure over eight weeks to build a supportive, familiar and fun environment for children.
Angela Chiverton said she’s booked her two daughters Sophie and Elise in to Yoga Storytime to find some relaxing downtime after school.
“They love dance so anything that gets them moving their bodies is great,” she said.
“I love yoga myself, so it’ll be great for them to experience it too.”
Yoga Storytime is a free program but bookings are required to secure your child’s spot for the eight weeks in Dalby with sessions occurring every Tuesday at 3.30pm to 4.30pm from 5 February to 26 March 2019.
Chinchilla Library is also offering the program for younger children during school hours. Bookings are not required for Chinchilla Yoga Storytime.
