Workshops planned for Cann Valley District

East Gippsland Shire Council is calling for community members of the Cann River, Noorinbee, Tonghi Creek, Club Terrace, Combienbar, Tamboon and surrounds to attend a series of upcoming workshops to inform and develop the Cann Valley District Community Plan: 2019–24.

Residents of the Cann Valley District met last December and identified a range of expertise and information needed to make informed decisions regarding their community plan.

Council’s Director Community Strategy Kate Nelson said at this session and from the community survey feedback, residents decided to use the name Cann Valley District instead of Cann River District.

“Cann Valley District was more inclusive of the settlements around the Cann River township,” Ms Nelson said.

“We had great turnout to the workshops held in 2018 and thanks to attendees for the time they have committed to the district community planning process.

“We encourage all those who have been on the journey with us so far, and welcome anyone who would like to join in to come along to the expert information sessions that interest them, and to attend the two final workshops on February 19 and March 5 to contribute to the planning of their district’s future,” Ms Nelson said.

Tuesday, February 12

Q&A Session with Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and Parks Victoria

5.30–7.30pm, Cann Valley Bush Nursing Centre

Officers from the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning and Parks Victoria will provide an overview of the role of the departments in the District, and update on the current and future projects planned for the area.

Tuesday, February 19

Creating the Plan Workshop

5.30-8pm, Cann Valley Bush Nursing Centre

Building on the previous three workshops and the information provided through the expert sessions, community members will select ideas to create the change the community want to see; and assign a team to take ownership of and develop each idea for their plan.

Tuesday, March 5

Making it Happen Workshop

5.30-8pm, Cann Valley Bush Nursing Centre

This final workshop will identify how to deliver the vision and goals; prioritise the ideas that have been developed; establish which ideas will be driven by community, government or other service providers to achieve the plan; and how to manage the process from here to deliver outcomes.

Thursday, March 14

Introduction to Social Enterprise

9.30am-4.30pm, Cann Valley Bush Nursing Centre

This session will provide participants with an introduction to the values and purpose of a social enterprise, tools and resources to help plan and assess ideas, legal and financial structures to support social enterprises, business models and real-life examples.

Delivered by the Australian Centre for Rural Entrepreneurship.

Thursday, March 21

Place Branding, Marketing and Tourism Session

11am–2pm, Cann Valley Bush Nursing Centre

Destination Marketing Store and East Gippsland Marketing will share industry insights on how to brand and market environmental and natural assets to improve social and economic opportunities in the district. 

The workshop will include how to create and use a destination brand, presentation of case studies and an understanding of social marketing. A representative from the Emerald Link project will present the proposal and discuss the State Government Sea to Summit business case funding commitment.
