Burdekin Shire Council confirms the conserve water notice for Giru will be lifted at 4pm Saturday 9 February.

As a result of significantly reduced turbidity levels in the Haughton river, water treatment and pumping operations have stabilised but have not yet returned to normal operations.

Reservoir levels have also been restored to near full capacity, however dependant on overnight usage, a conserve water notice may need to be reinstated from Sunday 10 February.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor and Burdekin Local Disaster Management (LDMG) Chair Lyn McLaughlin said “The Burdekin LDMG appreciates the cooperation of residents and businesses in the Giru water supply area in conserving water during and in the aftermath of the recent flooding. Your efforts contributed to Council being able to provide safe potable water for essential purposes without any interruption.”

A boil water notice remains in place for the Shirbourne area.
