A free introductory DJ course is set to give aspiring disc jockeys an industry leg-up and knowledge in running a small business.

Delivered by Off The Wall Promotions, in collaboration with the City of Wanneroo, the Introduction to DJing course affords students key insight into the music industry and teaches a broad range of DJ techniques.

Covering everything from marketing via social media and music theory to hardware proficiency, City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the course would equip graduates with a comprehensive set of industry-relevant skills.

“This course will give graduates the knowledge they need to springboard into the music industry and the confidence they need to excel,” Mayor Roberts said.

“From hands-on practical tuition to vocal techniques and a background on genre, this inclusive course is a great starting point for beginners.”

The course will once again be led by Brandon Chowdhurie from Off The Wall Promotions, an entertainment industry professional with over 30 years’ experience.

Previous participants have gone on to work for AV companies, perform at dance festivals and produce their own music, as well as start their own mobile karaoke business.

The course will culminate with a graduation party in the final week, where friends and family are invited to see each student apply what they have learned and DJ for 10-15 minutes.

Limited to just 15 places, registration is free and open to all City of Wanneroo residents. Mayor Roberts urged interested residents to get in touch before spots filled up.

Starting on Tuesday 12 March and running for 10 weeks at the Girrawheen Hub (11 Patrick Court, Girrawheen), expressions of interest can be submitted by emailing [email protected] or calling Shannon Crowe on 9405 5644.
