Western Downs Libraries have had huge success with Yoga Storytime programs across the region which started again last week.
The free Yoga Storytime programs held in Dalby and Chinchilla focus on creating positive child-caregiver interactions through sessions that involve story-telling, singing, dancing and stretching.
The programs encourage children and their care-givers to learn and play together in a relaxed, fun environment.
Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said that the first few sessions of Yoga Storytime were a hit with the children who attended.
“Our libraries on the Western Downs are well-known for providing fantastic programs to engage and inspire people of every age,” she said.
“We’ve had positive feedback about how the first sessions went, and I’m sure that will continue to get better as the program goes on.”
The hour-long classes are held once a week to encourage the development of early literacy skills and to involve the parents of young children in learning processes.
Denise Crane enrolled her two children, Chelsea and Jack, in the program and said that they’ve enjoyed the first few sessions of Yoga Storytime.
“Jack and Chelsea have done the Yoga Storytime program at Dalby before, and they liked it so much they wanted to do it again this year,” she said.
“They have fun and they’re learning new things.
“They can’t wait to go back next week.”
Bookings are not necessary for Chinchilla Yoga Storytime. Sessions are held at 10am every Tuesday during the school term at the Chinchilla Library.
