Local businesses are set to receive a boost following the announcement music legend Sir Elton John will bring his farewell tour to the iconic Hanging Rock next summer.
The acclaimed singer/songwriter will perform on Saturday 25 January during the Australia Day public holiday weekend as part of his global Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Sir Elton John will be the seventh artist to perform at Hanging Rock, following in the footstep of fellow legends Leonard Cohen, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen, Eagles, Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil. The venue has hosted an exclusive eight tours to date in partnership with Frontier Touring, with Rod Stewart and Bruce Springsteen returning twice to the picturesque location on different tours.
Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce said the announcement of another concert at the Rock, the first since 2017, was hugely exciting for the region.
“Not only are we excited to welcome such a legendary performer as Sir Elton John to the shire, we are looking forward to the economic benefits such a concert will bring,” Cr Pearce said.
“Previous concerts had a significant economic impact on the region, especially for accommodation providers and local restaurants, shops and cafes.
“This tour will be the final opportunity for music fans to see Sir Elton John live in concert, and the only chance to see him at with the majestic Hanging Rock as a concert backdrop.
“We expect this opportunity will draw many thousands of concert-goers to the Rock, many of whom might not have been to the region previously.”
