It has recently been identified that the storm water infrastructure underneath the intersection of Cary Avenue and Lidsdale Street, Wallerawang has failed and requires urgent repair.
As part of Council’s ongoing dedication to ensuring the safety of the community through the effective maintenance of its assets, on the 13 February 2019 it was discovered that the storm water infrastructure underneath the intersection of Cary Avenue and Lidsdale Street, Wallerawang has failed.
This failure has resulted in the isolated erosion of the pavement underneath this intersection and presented itself through defects in the road surface. Once aware, staff removed the surface to uncover the failure. Commencing the 13 February, staff will continue to remove all failed pavement to uncover the full extent of the defective storm water infrastructure in order to repair and renew to an appropriate, functioning standard.
It is expected that this work will result in significant disruption to the area as the extent of the failure is unknown. It is preferred to solve the problem in its entirety in the immediate term and as such, Council have temporarily closed this intersection. Closing the intersection will ensure the safety of motorists in the area while the storm water infrastructure is exposed and will allow staff the freedom to effect repairs as quickly as practicable.
