East Gippsland Shire Council is taking four Council meetings on the road in 2019, after successfully trialling the idea last year.
In fact, the next Ordinary Council Meeting in March will be held outside the Council Chambers.
Mallacoota will play host to this meeting on Tuesday, March 5 at 1pm in what will be the first meeting of East Gippsland Shire Council in Mallacoota in the council’s history.
Community members are welcome to attend and there will be an opportunity to chat with Councillors informally outside the meeting. Further details will be available closer to the date.
The remaining Council meetings outside the Corporate Centre will be held in Lakes Entrance (June), Omeo (September) and Orbost (November). These three towns were part of last year’s trial.
Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said Councillors were looking forward to holding meetings across the shire.
“Last year’s meetings were well supported, which was great to see. I know all Councillors enjoyed the opportunity to take the meetings to different communities and meet with interested residents,” Cr O’Connell said.
“Despite some meetings not being held in the Corporate Centre, we will still provide the accessibility people have come to expect from our meetings. We will live stream and video archive the proceedings so people who can’t be at the meeting can watch at a time convenient for them.”
Councillors will take full advantage of their time in these communities by undertaking other activities to coincide with the council meeting.
A full list of council meeting dates is available on the Council Meetings page.
