Residents reassured recycling will not go to landfill

Macedon Ranges Shire Council is reassuring residents that recyclable materials placed in their yellow recycling bins will not go to landfill and will continue to be processed as normal.

The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) last night ordered the SKM Material Recycling Facility in Coolaroo to stop accepting recycling materials following several fires at the site. Council’s recycling materials are normally taken to this facility by Council’s waste contractor, Four Seasons Waste.

Four Seasons Waste has arranged for Macedon Ranges Shire recycling materials to be taken to alternative recycling facilities while the company makes the required improvements at the Coolaroo plant.

Chief Executive Officer, Margot Stork said recycling services would not be affected by the temporary closure of the Coolaroo facility, and residents should put out their recycling bins as normal.

“We’re working closely with our waste contractor to ensure that this problem with the SKM facility doesn’t impact our residents,” Ms Stork said.

“Our community works hard to minimise waste and it’s important that they continue to be conscientious and recycle.”
