Council Works – Week ending 15 February 2019

“For the week ending 15 February, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff have allocated resources to a wide variety of tasks throughout the Lithgow area. Namely, staff have been restoring concrete footpaths and driveways as a result of burst mains and services while also seeing to the removal of graffiti, clearing of storm water drainage and effecting major repairs to failed storm water infrastructure at Wrights Road. Lastly, working with the local police, staff conducted maintenance grading of the Zig Zag access to allow an ongoing operation targeting unregistered vehicles in the area.”

“Last week, Council’s rural staff have completed capital improvements to a number of urban and rural road assets”, said Mayor Thompson. “Bathurst Street, Wallerawang, Lett Street, Portland, Falnash / Illford Lane, Portland and Quarry Place, South Bowenfels have been sealed. Also, preparation work has commenced on Skelly Road and Neubeck Street, Lidsdale for seal in March and major repairs are ongoing to rectify storm water failures in Cary Street, Wallerawang. Unfortunately this failure occurred immediately underneath sewer infrastructure causing major disturbance and requiring mass allocation of resources to resolve quickly.”

“Throughout the region, Council has been focussing on capital improvements to ensure the transport projects are 100% complete as of the end of June,” said Mayor Thompson. “As it stands, works will be commencing this week on proactive risk assessments of the Wolgan Gap rock faces using state of the art UAV imagery to create 3D models to assess ongoing performance into the future with a higher degree of accuracy than traditional modelling methods. Secondly, traffic improvements commenced this week on Barton Avenue, Wallerawang in the vicinity of the Rail Overbridge. This project will involve the construction of a pedestrian refuge, lighting and improvements to sight distance on the bridge itself to increase both pedestrian and vehicular safety. Third, tenders are open to the public for the construction of 1 kilometre of footpath in Lidsdale. Lastly, engineers have been working towards solving storm water issues through the area,” said Mayor Thompson. “There have been long-standing issues with stormwater causing major flooding at Main Street, Lithgow and throughout Marrangaroo. Staff are working towards solutions in these areas with the view to ensure improvements are effected in the near future.”
