Gino Marra, former Socceroo Brett Emerton and Mayor George Brticevic. The name, colours and logo of the new Macarthur South-West Sydney A-League team will be up for discussion at the first public forum on the club’s creation.
Football fans are being urged to get behind the team and hundreds are expected to attend the meeting at the Campbelltown Catholic Club on Thursday 28 February.
A panel taking questions from the audience and through social media will discuss the club’s identity, its interaction with the region and its people, its purpose and culture, as well as any other subjects supporters want to raise. The event will also be live video streamed.
Similar forums will follow across south-west Sydney throughout March.
“This is an exciting time and a chance for the people of Campbelltown to get involved at the inception of their own team and help create the identity of the club that will represent their area,” said Mayor George Brticevic.
“Joining the A-League will be a great boost for the region, bringing renewed interest in football and generating national and international exposure for south-west Sydney,” said Cr Brticevic.
“Opportunities this big don’t come along very often and it’s up to us all to embrace it and make this team a real success.”
In December, Football Federation Australia announced Macarthur South-West Sydney and Western Melbourne had been chosen from a shortlist to join the competition, expanding the A-League to 12 teams.
The first home game will be played at Campbelltown Stadium in the 2020/21 season.
Names already being linked to the club include former Socceroos captains Mile Jedinak and Brett Emerton, both of whom grew up and learnt to play in the area.
The first forum will be held at the Campbelltown Catholic Club, 6.30pm to 8.30pm, Thursday 28 February. Tickets are free, however bookings are essential. Tickets are limited to four per person. Bookings can be made online at http://bit.ly/macaleagueforum
