Community input to aid future disaster response

Following the 2018 CQ Bushfires, Gladstone Regional Council is providing impacted communities an opportunity to engage with emergency services and Council to ensure continued improvement of response during disasters and emergencies.

Working in conjunction with emergency services and other agencies, Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the de-briefs are to ensure those impacted by the bushfires have an opportunity to provide feedback, suggest areas for improvement and recommend solutions to improve the collaborative response to disasters and emergencies

“This was the first of three de-briefs Council and other agencies involved in disaster response will be holding across the region,” Councillor Burnett said.

“We had around 30 community members attend the de-brief and the feedback received was extremely valuable.

“Community feedback and improvement initiatives will be used to inform the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), local area coordination groups, disaster response plans, and inform the Queensland Government Queensland Bushfire Review.

Held on Saturday afternoon, Councillor Burnett thanked all community members who attended the de-brief in Mount Larcom. Community de-briefs will also be held in Agnes Water and Deepwater/Baffle Creek this coming weekend. Following the de-brief at Wartburg Sport and Recreation Grounds, community members are invited to attend Band Together – featuring Adam Harvey – a community event to recognise the efforts provided by countless community members, organisations and emergency services during the 2018 CQ Bushfires.
