Thousands gathered at Cabramatta’s Freedom Plaza on Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the Year of the Pig.
Close to 10,000 people gathered at Cabramatta’s Freedom Plaza on the weekend to ring in the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Pig.
Businesses were adorned with red lanterns and marigolds as locals and visitors came together to mark one of the most important events in the south east Asian cultural calendar.
Freedom Plaza was a hive of activity across the two days, with music, dance and food entertaining families from across Fairfield City and Sydney.
Peppa Pig and her brother George Pig thrilled young children, while lion dancers, fire crackers, God of Fortune, fun food competitions and cultural entertainment delighted visitors of all ages.
The world’s longest banh mi, or pork roll, was also created at an incredible 3.9 metres.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the City is proud of its diverse and colourful community.
“Fairfield City is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family, and it is also a fantastic destination for all residents of Sydney who want to enjoy the food, culture and entertainment on offer at our many events, and every day in our city centres,” Mayor Carbone said.
“We want people to visit our town centres and support our local businesses."
“This year’s Lunar New Year celebrations again showcased our community’s rich diversity and harmony and I congratulate Cabramatta on once again putting on a wonderful event.”
