Get rid of loose asbestos from your home safely

Published Wednesday, 20th February 2019

Fairfield City residents have the opportunity of safely removing loose and legacy asbestos from their homes for free.

Council is offering residents a free collection of up to 10 square metres of loose and legacy bonded asbestos per household.

Legacy asbestos is asbestos that is from the original build or an old renovation.

Asbestos can be found in places such as the walls, ceilings and floors of kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, outdoor toilets, sheds and garages.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said: “Disturbing these materials could potentially release dangerous fibres that can be inhaled and may pose a health risk to you and your family.

“Asbestos that is sealed, that is left undisturbed and in good condition doesn't pose a health risk.

“Council’s free Household Asbestos Removal Program was put in place to help keep your family safe and to prevent the illegal dumping of asbestos into our environment.”

Asbestos material for collection must be legacy, bonded/non-friable and detached from your property. The next collection will take place between 25 and 29 March.

Registrations are required as places are limited. To register visit www.fccasbestoscollection.eventbrite.com.au. Registrations close Tuesday, 12 March 2019.

Collections are carried out by licenced contractors who handle and dispose of the asbestos safely and correctly.
