The main roads into Yarra Glen will soon receive new ‘community gateways’ thanks to VicRoads, to improve safety for drivers and welcome visitors and traffic passing through.
Yarra Glen is surrounded by high-speed roads, where drivers and riders are required to significantly lower their speed when approaching the town.
Community gateways will make it easier for motorists to recognise they’re entering a regional town, recognise changes to the speed limit and slow down. When complete, you will see eye-catching signage and painted road lines leading into town on Eltham-Yarra Glen Road, Melba Highway and Healesville-Yarra Glen Road.
These safety upgrades form part of Towards Zero, which is a plan to ensure no one is seriously injured or killed on Victorian roads. The State Government is investing $1.4 billion to achieve fewer than 200 deaths by 2020 and reduce serious injures by 15 per cent on Victorian roads.
Yarra Glen is among the first of more than 100 towns across Victoria to receive these new community gateways, with works expected to start in February.
