Get active and try the new outdoor fitness stations at Bridges Hill

Cessnock City Council was pleased to officially open three new fitness stations installed at Bridges Hill, Cessnock. Council was successful in securing just less than $50,000 under the NSW Government’s Social Housing Community Improvement Fund to install the stations.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said it was fantastic to be able to deliver this infrastructure to the community.

“Getting outdoors and moving is vital, not only for the physical benefits but for our mental wellbeing. Going to the gym or joining a sporting team can be costly. These fitness stations feature gym style equipment that is free for all to use and caters to all levels of fitness.”

The outdoor fitness stations form part of the Bridges Hill Park Playground and Access Improvement project. This new adventure playground will provide a creative and imaginative play space for people of all ages and abilities, ultimately encouraging all to engage with the natural environment.

The design components include swings and climbing decks, an enclosed toddler play space, a nature play area with balance beams and timber logs, a children’s bike circuit and obstacle course, a basketball hoop, yarning circle and sensory bush tucker garden and BBQ and picnic areas.   The access improvements include a new colour coded path, stair access, legibility and way finding. Terrace walls, rock-lined swales, native revegetation, viewing platforms, seating, heritage and interpretation signage are proposed.

This project is also being funded by the Federal Government's National Stronger Regions Fund, the Cessnock Wine Country Lions Club, the State Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund (Rounds 1 and 2) and the State Government’s Resources for Regions program.
