Council has resolved to enter into a 9.5 year lease with Echuca Neighborhood House Inc to continue the operation of the site at McKenzie Street, Echuca as a golf course.
Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said following a competitive Expression of Interest (EOI) process, not for profit organisation and current lessee, Echuca Neighbourhood House was named the successful applicant.
“The EOI is a competitive process where submissions are assessed against a selection criteria and presented to council for adoption. We are pleased to provide Echuca Neighborhood House the opportunity to continue managing the Back 9 Golf Course,” Cr Weston said.
The EOI went out to the community 17 November 2018 and closed on 18 December.
The nine-hole golf course is a combination of council freehold and Crown Land adjacent to the Campaspe River in central Echuca.
Echuca Neighborhood House signed a 12 month license to take over the management of the back 9 Golf Course early last year following Bendigo Regional YMCA’s decision to cease the continuation of their lease.
President of the Echuca Neighborhood House Inc. Board, Gwen Smith said the board was looking forward to working with council and continuing the role of managing and improving the Back 9 Golf Course.
“We are looking forward to expanding the use of the facilities to include training, education and other programs for the local community members, community groups, tourists and visitors,” Ms Smith said.
“It is a great opportunity for Echuca Neighbourhood House and we are ready the challenge.”
