Council is seeking nominations from eight members of the community with experience in environmental, natural resource or sustainability management and who are passionate about the environment to join its
The role of MEAC is to establish a collaborative partnership between Council and key community stakeholders to inform and advise Council on environmental sustainability issues.
The Committee is made up of Councillors and community representatives of local environmental groups, the business community, or interested individuals.
The group provides technical advice into flora and fauna protection and enhancement; waste management, renewal and improvements to infrastructure and natural areas; bushfire management and carbon reduction.
In particular, the Committee advises on the implementation, monitoring and review of Maroondah’s Sustainability Strategy 2016-2020 and subsequent plans, strategies and actions.

Successful applicants will be part of the Committee for a period of four years, starting in March.
Maroondah Councillor and MEAC chair Marijke Graham said the Committee had an important role to play in the development of plans and policies in relation to the region’s environmental sustainability.
“Past members have brought many skills and knowledge to the Committee, with some having undertaken environmental research and others with experience working in the industry or serving on conservation societies across the region,” Cr Graham said.
Representatives will be appointed by Council and are chosen on the basis of:
knowledge and understanding of the environment and sustainability issues in Maroondah interest and involvement in local and/or broader environmental and sustainability activities ability to contribute to the strategic development and implementation of environmental and sustainability policy at local government level experience and understanding of the role of an advisory committee ability to regularly attend and participate in meetings as scheduled.Current members may reapply. The current Councillor representatives on the Committee are Marijke Graham, Paul Macdonald and Samantha Mazzuchelli.
