Each year, on Australia Day, we acknowledge groups and individuals who make a significant contribution to the local community through the Citizen of the Year Awards.
They say it’s the people who make a place, and that's certainly true here in the City of Bayswater. We are fortunate to have so many passionate, community-minded people who volunteer their time to make our City an inclusive and wonderful place to live.
I would like to congratulate this year's very deserving Citizen of the Year award winners: •Citizen of the Year, Michelle Hughes; •Citizen of the Year – Youth, Galvin Phuong; •Citizen of the Year – Senior, Polly Lawson; and •Active Citizenship, Bayswater Historical Society.
Michelle Hughes is a well-known face around the Morley school community. Incredibly generous with her time, Michelle has continued to volunteer in many capacities, including in her role as P&C president, a position she held long after her own daughter finished school. It's safe to say that Weld Square Primary School would not be the same without Michelle's contribution.
Please join me in congratulating all our worthy Citizens of the Year when you see them out and about in the community.
