Lots to love about Broome sport in 2019

Released 12 February 2019

Broome’s 2019 sporting season will kick off on Monday 25 February with a season launch event at the Mercure Hotel.

The information session marks the beginning of the Shire of Broome’s Club Development Workshop Series and brings together club committee members and key sporting stakeholders in an informal session to learn about the opportunities available in 2019.

Shire staff will be on hand to provide information on the new Sport and Recreation Master Plan that provides direction on sporting infrastructure development for the next 10 years.

The season opener will also officially launch the #LoveBroomeSport Photo Competition.

Shire of Broome Club Development Officer, Mike Doyle, said volunteers could win up to $500 of equipment for their club by photographing local sport - anything from an action shot on the water, a volunteer dedicating their time on the track, or a supporter cheering on their team on the court or field.

“To enter simply like the ‘Broome Sports Club Hub’ Facebook page, and post your photo with the hashtag #lovebroomesport and your club’s hashtag,” Mr Doyle said.

Photos must involve a sporting moment linked to Broome sport and be free from watermarks. All entries will be considered for use in Shire of Broome sporting promotional material.

“The winners will be announced at the annual Broome Sports Awards to be held on 16 November 2019. First prize will earn the nominated club a $500 Sportspower voucher, with second winning a $300 voucher and third a $200 voucher,” Mr Doyle said.

“The aim of the competition is to highlight the diversity of sport happening in our community every day. By promoting the hashtag and capturing local sport in action the community can support their local clubs and the dedicated volunteers who run them.”

The Sports Season Launch starts at 5pm on Monday 25 February at the Mercure Hotel and RSVPs are essential for catering purposes to [email protected].
