Woe woos with favourite pic

​Revesby’s Christopher Woe has been named the winner of CBCity’s Where interesting Happens Photographic Competition.

The 32-year-old has been living in Canterbury-Bankstown since he was eight and was introduced to the world of photography by the Bankstown Youth Development Service (BYDS), which operates out of Bankstown Arts Centre.

“Thank you to Council for being supporters of my work and a huge thank you to from BYDS for giving me the initial skills I needed and for always being in my corner,” he said.

“This photo is part of a series of similar images I shot around Bankstown at sunrise and sunset.

“I was inspired to do this series when I heard someone state they wouldn’t go out in Bankstown at night, which I thought was ridiculous – I've always walked around Bankstown at night and never had an issue.

“My image shows you can go out after dark and it’s beautiful. I also wanted to show you don’t need to travel across the world, or even go far from home, to find interesting things to photograph.”

Mr Woe received a $100 JB HI-FI voucher, with his photograph and those from the other nine finalists on exhibition at the Arts Centre until the end of March.

Mr Woe’s photograph was featured in the Council News page in the Torch newspaper on 11 July.

Mayor Khal Asfour said this year’s competition attracted more than 100 entries.

“Christopher’s photograph stood out because of its vibrant colours and his ability to beautifully capture the hustle and bustle in Canterbury-Bankstown, which is a dynamic and thriving City,” he said.

“It and the other photos submitted certainly confirm CBCity really is a place Where Interesting Happens.!”

The 2019 competition is now underway, with the Torch supporting it once again, while the winner will receive two 50x70cm canvas prints, worth $340iness, from Uncle Sam’s Fast Photo Service.
