To the protectors of our environment… Thank you!

Council values the contribution of our many amazing environmental volunteers. Without their commitment, dedication, time, energy and knowledge many of our environmental programs would not operate successfully. 

Following a recent Environmental Perceptions Survey we conducted, the results showed significant proof that residents are dedicated to our beautiful beaches and bushland and they work hard to protect them. In fact, a staggering 9 out of 10 residents are concerned about the environment, and thousands of locals are doing their bit to preserve it.

For example, in 2018, over 250 Bushcare volunteers spent over 6,900 hours caring for our glorious bushland.  While the Penguin Wardens at Manly Wharf finished their 13th year protecting Manly’s Little Penguins - every single evening of their breeding season - and members of WIRES and Sydney Wildlife rescued 8,500 of our precious native animals.

Residents are also tackling climate change head on, with 808 locals installing solar last year and many of us choosing a clean commute, with over 300 people cycling to Manly Wharf on a regular basis.

These are just a few examples of our local residents taking direct action to protect and enhance our local environment.

While we’re not all in a position to be so ‘hands-on’, it’s amazing that even small changes in our everyday lives can have a considerable impact on the environment. 

Here’s some steps you can take, both big and small to lower your carbon footprint and for those already taking action, it’s great to know that you’re not alone!
