Hi, it's Tim here, one of the Cultural Rangers working in the Coorong!

We've been down to 28 Mile Crossing and have noticed all the muntries fruiting... You’ll see these small apple-like berries growing on large ground covers, and when ripe, will go a purple-red colour.

Muntries (or munthari) are significant to us as Aboriginal people because of their value as a traditional food source and to trade with other tribes. Although these fruits don’t tend to be used for trade anymore, they are still thoroughly enjoyed eaten fresh by us today.

(Note that some plants are poisonous, so don't eat bush food plants without being shown first by an experienced person!)
