22 February 2019 - Media release
Registrations are now open for community members who care about the cleanliness and health of the natural environment to participate the 2019 Clean Up Australia Day.
Clean Up Australia Day events will take place on the following days:
Business Clean Up Day Tuesday, 26 February
Schools Clean Up Day Friday, 1 March
Community Clean Up Day Sunday, 3 March
Campaspe Shire Council Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said it is the perfect opportunity to join with family, friends, neighbours and colleagues to remove all the rubbish accumulating in our parks, gardens and waterways.
“There is so much we can do to help reduce the eight million tonnes of plastic entering our oceans worldwide each year, much of which comes via our local rivers,” Cr Weston said.
Council has again teamed up with Bunnings Warehouse Echuca and Vivid for a special Business Clean Up Day, held this morning (22 February) at the Aquatic Reserve in Echuca.
Registered sites in Campaspe for the Community Clean Up Day are:
Echuca Banyule Forest, Middle Track 9am - 11am
Vic Park/Scenic Drive (land and water), meet at boat ramp 10:30am -12:30pm
Wharparilla: Mt Terrick Rd, Wharparilla Recreation Reserve from 9am
Rochester: Ramsay St, meet at cnr Ramsay St and Charles St 9am - 11am
Rushworth: Rushworth Murchison Rd, meet at Moto Finish Cafe, 27 High Street 10am - 12pm
Stanhope: Brand St, meet out the front of 9 Brand St 11am - 1pm
At least five schools across the shire will be hosting events for Schools Clean Up Day this year. These include 208 Primary School Echuca, St Mary’s Primary Rushworth, St Mary’s Primary School Echuca, Lockington Consolidated School and Kyabram P-12 College.
“It’s great to see schools across our shire on board this year, taking positive steps to improve the cleanliness of their school environment,” Cr Weston said.
In 2018, clean up events saw volunteers across Campaspe collect 170 bags plus nine ute loads of rubbish and recycling.
“Not only is it an eyesore, litter carelessly thrown away by a small minority of people damages the health of our native flora and fauna. It’s unnecessary,” Cr Weston said.
Any person or group can register, or simply turn up to one of the registered events. Volunteers are asked to bring water, gloves, a hat and sturdy shoes. Lunch will be provided for volunteers at selected sites.
Online registrations are free and are now open at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au.
