Kingston responds immediately to contractor listeria warning

The City of Kingston has acted immediately in response to a listeria warning made about our City’s delivered meals suppliers, iCook Foods.

The Department of Health and Human Services issued a letter to the City of Kingston on Thursday 21 February 2019, to advise Kingston that we are one of the Council’s affected by the detection of listeria in foods produced by Dandenong-based producers iCook Foods.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said that Council takes health warnings very seriously and has responded immediately, in line with the Department of Health’s advice, to make alternative arrangements and inform affected community members.

“Council has directly contacted over 300 client residents affected by the situation and is asking them to dispose of any left-over food from iCook Foods they may have stored,” said Cr Oxley.

Council has put in place alternative food producers for our delivered meals.  

The Mayor said that the health of our community is Council’s greatest priority in response to this news.

“In the letter to our affected delivered meals recipients, Council has also outlined the symptoms of listeria which residents will need to keep an eye on over the coming months,” said Cr Oxley. 

The Department of Health and Human Services has advised Council that symptoms can take between 3 and 70 days to develop. These symptoms will normally appear around three weeks.  These symptoms can include:
