Shillinglaw Road Set for Reconstruction

Published on 25 February 2019

Upgrade works on a section of Shillinglaw Road in Drouin will soon commence to improve safety and access for road users.

Works will take place across two stages. First stage works will widen and resurface a 600-metre length of road from Settlement Road to Amelia Court. Works include widening with new kerb and channel, improved drainage, pavement construction and a sealed surface.

This $594,000 project is being funded through Council’s 2018/19 Capital Works program. Works are programmed to commence mid-March with completion expected in mid-2019 (weather permitting).

As works progress, traffic delays are expected and at times sections of the road may be temporarily closed. Council appreciates community cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience. Nearby residents will be further notified as works progress by Council and/or the contractor.

Every effort will be taken to minimise impact on existing vegetation however several trees will require removal to allow for construction of a safer and wider road pavement. Local community group Friends of Drouin’s Trees have been involved in the planning process and are supportive of the design. New replacement trees will be planted alongside other landscaping works.

The second stage of works will target the remaining 1,000 metre length of road from Amelia Court to Gardner and Holman Road, including a shared footpath and lighting upgrades. These works will take place in a future financial year.

“Community safety is our number one priority and we’re so pleased to be able to deliver these staged improvements to Shillinglaw Road. Previously the road was prone to corrugations and potholes, especially after wet weather. After these upgrade works, road users will be able to enjoy driving down a safer and more road user friendly road all year round.”
