Active youngsters are hungry youngsters and Springsure students who actively travel to school are invited to satisfy their appetite with a free barbecue breakfast on Friday, 22 March 2019.
The breakfast, which coincides with National Ride2School Day, will be hosted at Rich Memorial Park from 7.30 – 9.00 am and is available to all local students who ride, walk, scoot or skate to school.
Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Kerry Hayes said the initiative was a first for council and rewarded those students who pursued active means of travelling to and from school each day.
‘It is becoming increasingly clear that Australia has a growing obesity and overweight problem among its youngest generation and encouraging children to travel to and from school in an active fashion is a great start to addressing this issue,’ he said.
‘The Springsure event, organised by our Youth Development Officer Susie-Ann Bate, can be viewed as a pilot program and, if successful, the initiative has the potential to be extended to other centres within the region in years to come.’
As well as enjoying a free breakfast, students attending the event will receive a free helium balloon and tyre pressure check.
