Tingha town water safe for consumption

Tingha’s town water supply is completely safe for drinking and other domestic uses, according to a Tingha Plateau fire recovery statement by Armidale Regional Council.

Issued in response to community concerns about water quality, the statement assured residents the town supply, treated and sourced from Inverell Shire Council, has not been affected by the bushfire.

“Residents in fire impacted areas do need to exercise caution with rain water and other tank storages on their properties,” Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said.

“There is potential for contamination of these water supplies, because of ash and the fire retardants used in fighting the fires. Contaminated rainwater can still be used to flush toilets, water gardens and wash cars and clothes – provided it will not stain the clothes – but it should not be consumed.

“However, monitoring of the town water has not detected any deterioration of water quality that would pose a health risk.”

Armidale Regional Council supplies the Tingha village with town water purchased from Inverell Shire Council because of the close proximity of the Inverell Council’s water treatment facility.
