Ensuring your property has a clear, visible house or business address number can make a difference in emergency situations where every second counts.
East Gippsland Shire Council is encouraging residents and businesses to have clearly marked property address numbers.
Mayor Cr Natalie O’Connell said Victoria Police, the Country Fire Authority, VICSES and Ambulance Victoria services all report that hidden or non-existent house numbers can waste time and increase response times for emergency services.
“All properties both households and commercial buildings should be clearly numbered. It’s important that numbers are displayed at the front of your property; enabling emergency service to locate your home or business easily,” Cr O’Connell said.
“The numbers displayed should be reflective both day and night and the numbers should be attached to a letterbox, a post, a dedicated board or the boundary fence.”
Property owners are responsible for clearly marking their homes and businesses, if you are unsure of your rural property address number please contact Council for assistance.
