What a busy week it has been! We have seen important funding announcements for our region, a major step taken in the Snowy 2.0 project, and an Ordinary Council Meeting held last Thursday.
On Saturday, our local member John Barilaro announced the exciting news that Snowy Monaro Regional Council had successfully secured an $11.8 million state government grant to extend the Jindabyne Shared Trail.
The grant will allow an additional 100km of new trails to be constructed that will link existing walking and cycling routes around the stunning Lake Jindabyne.
The Jindabyne community identified this project as a key priority to ensure the continued growth of year-round tourism in the region. The additional 100km will complement the Thredbo Valley Track extension, and further enhance Jindabyne’s reputation as a world-class mountain bike destination.
Another important step in the future of the Snowy 2.0 project has been taken with the federal government granting Snowy Hydro shareholder approval to proceed with the early works stage.
This comes as welcomed news for the Snowy Monaro region as we prepare for the economic boost Snowy 2.0 will generate.
Last Thursday, Councillors met for the second Ordinary Council Meeting in February. Council resolved to return to one meeting per month for a trial period from April to June.
From April, meetings will be held on the third Thursday of the month, starting at 5pm. For a list of meeting dates and locations, please visit Council’s website.
