Abbey was diagnosed with leukaemia when she was 3 years old. After 6 years of treatment, Abbey lost her battle, earning her Angel wings in 2015, aged 9 years old.
Abbey knew from experience of her own family and those she met on the Kookaburra Ward, that when a child is diagnosed with cancer, everyone faces a tough struggle. She had a dream of surrounding families with sensitive, practical support.
Her vision was to offer assistance so flexibly that the particular needs of each family could be understood and respected. In particular, she did not want family members to be separated at a time when togetherness was so important.
Our mission is to offer practical support to families (from rural or interstate areas) whose child has been diagnosed with childhood cancer.
We work to secure close and accessible accommodation for the child’s whole family. We offer financial assistance (through rental bonds or purchase of white goods) if a family needs to relocate to Melbourne for their child’s treatment.
We provide parking assistance to ease families’ financial stress of visiting the Royal Children’s Hospital for long periods of time.
