Young trailblazers are being encouraged to nominate for the Western Bulldogs’ Leadership Project, which aims to help develop local community leaders.
The program has been run in the region for two years and is an initiative of the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation in partnership with Ararat Rural City Council. Central Grampians Local Learning and Employment Network (CGLLEN) have come on board for 2019.
Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the program was a fantastic opportunity for 14 to 16-year-olds to gain valuable experience through an intensive six-month program that focuses on building leadership, teamwork, communication, goal setting and resilience skills.
Dr Harrison said young people who are willing to challenge themselves, who are eager to learn and want to contribute to their community should nominate for a spot in the program.
“After several years taking part, we highly recommend the program to any young person who is keen to better themselves and learn new skills,” he said.
Candidates need not excel athletically or play sport to be considered but must be dedicated and passionate about developing themselves and contributing to their community. Nominations close on March 12.
CGLLEN Executive Officer Ray Campling encouraged the region’s young people to nominate and said that family members and friends can also nominate a young person they think should take part.
“If you know a young leader who wants to learn from respected industry leaders, build confidence, make new friends and volunteer in their community, please nominate them,” Mr Campling said.
“This is a really wonderful opportunity for our local young people and what’s more, it’s free.”
As part of the program, participants attend two camps, six workshops, and a careers expo, and will also undertake a community project and present to Ararat Rural City Council in September.
Nominations for the project close on Tuesday March 12. Nominations can be made through the Eventbrite website – visit https://bit.ly/2FNu6n0.
Nominating does not guarantee a place in the program with all applications assessed and successful candidates chosen on the strength and detail of their application. Participants must be prepared to attend 80% of the workshops.
