During 2019, Dingley Village Library and Harold Box Hall will undergo major improvement works.
Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said that once complete, our community will enjoy fantastic new community facilities.
“These include an upgraded library, new outdoor space, improved community meeting rooms, new kiosk & kitchen, new maternal and child health rooms plus a new reception area,” said Cr Oxley.
Dingley Village Library will be shut during 2019 during the improvement works, however a number of services will be available at the Dingley Village Neighbourhood House next door.
“Library members will be able to order/reserve books online free of charge and they will be delivered for pick-up from the Dingley Village Neighbourhood House next door. The Neighbourhood House will also have computers available for use and will run weekly Story Time Sessions,” said Cr Oxley.
The popular Tiny Tots Story Time Session will continue to run at 2.30pm on Mondays at the Neighbourhood Centre.
At the January Ordinary Council Meeting, the contract to oversee the extension and refurbishment of Dingley Library and Harold Box Hall was awarded to Harris HMC Interiors (VIC) Pty Ltd.
“This is a $5 million joint-funded project, with a Council contribution of more than $4 million and a $750,000 Living Libraries Grant.”
Works are expected to be completed by the end of 2019. Locals wishing to visit a library are welcome to visit another Kingston Library branch.
“You can also visit other nearby Kingston library branches with Westall and Parkdale both just a short drive away,” said Cr Oxley.
Today’s libraries are buzzing with activity – from children’s activities, free school holiday activities, computers available for public use, author visits, 3D-printing, music performances, e-books, technology classes and much more on offer.
