TRC to start Margaret Street water main replacement work

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is replacing aged water mains on Margaret Street from Mackenzie Street east to the Dawnie Street roundabout, with work to start this Sunday (March 3).

TRC Water and Waste Projects portfolio leader Cr Bill Cahill said the new infrastructure would replace deteriorating water mains to ensure pressure and flow service standards to consumers in the area were maintained.

“The new water main will be located on the northern side of Margaret Street, a short distance from the kerb,” Cr Cahill said.

“To allow for the required traffic clearance around the worksite, detours will be in place for eastbound traffic. Please be mindful of the changed traffic conditions.

“Westbound traffic flow will be maintained throughout the project.

“The work will start near the Mackenzie Street T intersection on Margaret Street and move east to the Dawnie Street roundabout.

“Access to residences, motels, restaurants and other Margaret Street businesses will remain open during the project.

“Council plans to complete the project by mid-April, and its intention is to get the job done as quickly as possible.

“There should be no disruption to water supply, other than during the brief change over periods when water transitions to the new pipeline.

“Council will notify residents and businesses before the change over time.

“Council wishes to thank motorists, pedestrians and residents in advance for their patience during the construction phase.”

Council officers have liaised with surrounding residents and business owners to limit inconvenience where possible.
